A BELGIAN TEENAGER that landed a modelling contract after being spotted at the World Cup has been dropped after she posted photos of herself hunting wild animals on Facebook.
Axelle Despiegelaere became an internet sensation after she was spotted cheering in the crowd at the World Cup match between Belgium and Russia on 23 June.
The 17-year-old created a fan page for herself on Facebook, which amassed around 25,000 likes before it was deleted yesterday evening. On it, she announced that she had signed a modelling contract with L’Oreal as a result of being spotted at the match.
It didn’t take long for problems to pop up, however – Despiegalaere received criticism for a photo she posted a photograph of herself posing with a dead oryx gazelle.
She offered a semi-apology for the image, saying she didn’t mean to offend anybody, but people were still unimpressed:
A spokesperson for L’Oreal told Buzzfeed today that they wouldn’t be taking their collaboration with the teenager any further:
L’Oreal Professionel Belgium collaborated with her on an ad hoc basis to produce a video for social media use in Belgium. This has been produced.
Oof. That’s that then.
